Which Weight Loss Surgery is Available?
Laparoscopic Gastric Sleeve Surgery (LSG)
Gastric sleeve surgery (sleeve gastrectomy) which used to be the initial stage in a two-stage procedure has, as a stand-alone procedure become very popular. The gastric sleeve achieves weight loss by restricting the amount of food that you can ingest. During gastric sleeve surgery, 60% to 85% of the total stomach is removed. The remaining portion acts as a “sleeve” that restricts the amount of food your stomach can hold. No rerouting of the intestines is performed. Gastric sleeve surgery is successful because it removes the part of the stomach that produces appetite stimulants. Patients generally eat less because they don’t feel as hungry.

Am I a Candidate for
If you are obese, and have frequently tried dieting and exercise alone and still can’t lose the weight, bariatric surgery may be an option for you. Patients with a BMI (Body Mass Index) above 35 are viable candidates. Your general health and physical and emotional well-being are also measured to determine your “readiness” for a bariatric procedure.
